Technology resources for contractor members

Although you’ve likely dabbled in various software platforms to stay on track through the better part of 2020 (and early 2021), chances are good that you still need a bit of help to become proficient. That’s where Ginnie Floraday — a local tech expert with more than two decades of experience — can help.

For the past six years, SMACNA Greater Chicago has enlisted Floraday’s professional expertise to teach both remote and live classes. Her courses, usually held over the lunch hour, are designed to help contractors save valuable time by becoming more efficient in certain tech-related applications, including the Microsoft Office Suite.

Now, as a recently added value to contractor members, Floraday is offering FREE two-hour tech sessions to companies interested in brushing up on their skills or looking for additional custom training. This is a great resource for members to have in their learning toolbox, and applies to everyone across varying levels of skill, from new hires to executives.

“The one-on-one classes are especially helpful to two different groups of people; the first being individuals who feel they are behind the curve in computer skills. We start with their individual needs, and immediately find features that will save them time or eliminate the anxiety of not knowing how to safely work with other people’s workbooks,” Floraday said. “The second group is individuals who are more advanced and need to improve their processes in Excel. Since I’m able to look at their respective files, I can give them answers to specific company challenges.”

Floraday said her most popular program tends to be Excel because “the needs of businesses and the tools found in Excel are a perfect marriage. Excel has always been a good tool for analyzing business trends, but Microsoft wisely invested in improving its data tracking abilities. When they introduced Formatted Data tables and Pivot Reports, it was a game changer for users.”

Each session is new for Floraday because every participant has different questions, and all companies have unique challenges to solve.

“I want to thank all the people I have trained for their patience,” she said. “SMACNA’s support of these sessions is making a difference for these companies. Learning about how businesses manage their information is fun, but seeing the light bulb go on during training is rewarding beyond words.”
